Special Accommodations
NCCPA complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and also offers special
accommodations when testing for qualified examinees with medical conditions that
may be temporary or are not otherwise covered by the ADA. Detailed information on
test accommodations is provided in the Guidelines for Special Testing Accommodations
which are available by clicking here (PDF) or by contacting
NCCPA to request a copy be mailed to you.
The following medical aids do not require special accommodations. However, any small
items such as pills, inhaler, eye drops, glucose meter, etc. need to be brought
to the test center in a small plastic bag (no larger than quart size):
- Tissues, such as Kleenex
- Unwrapped cough drops or pills in a clear plastic baggie and not in a bottle/container
- Pillow for supporting neck, back or injured limb
- Eyeglasses (without the case)
- Hearing aids
- Ear plugs (or proctor can provide a candidate with a set of disposable earplugs)
- Braces (for example: wrist braces, leg braces, neck braces, etc.)
- Neck collars (for neck injuries)
- Crutches
- Wheelchairs
- Motorized chair or scooter
- Bandages/casts - including eye patches, slings for broken/sprained arms and other
injury-related items that cannot be removed)
- Cane, walkers or other medical walking aid
- Eye drops
- Inhaler
- Paper face mask
- Insulin pump or other medical device attached to a person's body
- Glucose Meter (only if attached to a person's body)
Steps for completing a request for special testing accommodations:
Carefully read the Guidelines and provide them to any professionals who will provide
documentation on your behalf.
Complete the Information in Support of Special Testing Accommodations form and submit
it by mail or fax to NCCPA. Be sure to sign the form. Please note that you are also
required to attach a personal statement to the form to describe your condition and
its impact on your life.
If you have received prior test accommodations in a PA program, please be sure to
have the appropriate person complete the Certification of Prior Test Accommodations
form and submit it to NCCPA by mail or fax.
Provide NCCPA with legible copies of the documentation for your request and keep
the original documentation for your files.
After NCCPA has received and reviewed all of the forms and documentation, you will
receive notification of whether your request has been approved or denied. If the
request was approved, you will also receive a Test Accommodation Agreement that
will provide you with the details of the accommodations that have been approved.
You will be required to sign this agreement and return it to NCCPA by mail or fax.
If your request has been denied, you will be granted an opportunity to appeal that
decision.
Once your signed Test Accommodation Agreement has been received by NCCPA, your application
will be complete, the test vendor will be notified of the special accommodations
that have been approved for your exam (PANCE or PANRE) and you will receive an exam
acknowledgement so you can set your exam date.
If you have previously received test accommodations for an NCCPA exam, you do not
need to resubmit the Certification of Prior Test Accommodations or documentation
unless your condition has changed or your documentation has become outdated. However,
you must still complete and submit the Information in Support of Special Testing
Accommodations form and follow the remainder of the steps listed above.
